Sebum is a sticky, oily substance produced by the sebaceous glands, which sit in the middle layers of the skin, near hair follicles. A typical sebum composition is based on different lipids.
Sebum is a sticky, oily substance produced by the sebaceous glands, which sit in the middle layers of the skin, near hair follicles. A typical sebum composition is based on different lipids.
The 3 main functions of Sebum are:
Hydration:
Sebum helps keep moisture inside the skin, which promotes skin hydration and flexibility.
Antioxidant transport:
Sebum transports fat-soluble antioxidants to the surface of the skin. Antioxidants are natural compounds that protect against the damaging effects of free radicals.
Protection against microbes:
Sebum is slightly acidic, with a pH of between 4.5 and 6.0. As a result, it helps prevent harmful pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses, from penetrating the skin.
Overproduction of sebum occurs when the scalp produces excess oil, leading to greasy hair and potential scalp issues. Dermal Therapy Sebum Control Shampoo addresses the root cause. It effectively regulates oil levels, cleanses impurities, and promotes a healthier scalp. Its targeted formulation helps restore balance, leaving hair feeling fresh, clean, and manageable.
Try our next generation Sebum Control range, clinically proven to reduce sebum production, featuring the Sebum Control Scalp Serum, Dry Shampoo and Shampoo.
