A healthy scalp is the foundation for great hair, yet it’s often neglected in favour of styling and strand-focused care. The truth is, your scalp’s condition directly influences the health, growth, and appearance of your hair. Without a proper routine, issues like greasy roots, dryness, or buildup can take a toll on both your scalp and hair.
Understanding the importance of scalp care and establishing a consistent routine can help you achieve a balanced scalp and healthier, more vibrant hair.
Why Scalp Care Matters
Your scalp is more than just the base of your hair; it’s an active part of your skin that requires the same attention as your face. Producing natural oils, or sebum, to moisturise and protect, the scalp can become unbalanced due to factors like:
- Overwashing: Stripping natural oils leads to dryness or overcompensation with excess sebum.
- Environmental Stressors: Pollution and sun exposure can dry out the scalp or cause irritation.
- Product Buildup: Residue from styling products can clog hair follicles and hinder hair growth.
Regular scalp care is the key to maintaining the health of this delicate area, preventing common issues like flakes, greasiness, or sensitivity.
Benefits of a Consistent Scalp Care Routine
A well-maintained scalp is the cornerstone of healthy hair. Here are the top benefits of making scalp care part of your routine:
Promotes Hair Growth
Keeping the scalp clean and hydrated ensures hair follicles are clear and nourished, supporting stronger, healthier hair growth.
Balances Oil Levels
Scalp care helps regulate sebum production, addressing oily roots while preventing dryness.
Improves Hair Appearance
A balanced scalp contributes to shinier, smoother hair by reducing buildup and dryness.
Prevents Scalp Discomfort
A healthy routine reduces irritation, sensitivity, and itchiness, ensuring your scalp feels as good as it looks.
How to Build a Scalp Care Routine
Creating a scalp care routine doesn’t need to be complicated. These essential steps will keep your scalp clean, hydrated, and balanced:
Cleanse with the Right Shampoo
Regular cleansing removes dirt, oil, and product buildup. Dermal Therapy’s Sebum Control Shampoo which is ideal for oily scalps, offering a gentle yet effective cleanse that restores balance without over-drying.
Tip: Massage your scalp while shampooing to boost circulation and clear buildup.
Hydrate with a Targeted Serum
Hydration is key for preventing dryness and flakiness. Dermal Therapy’s Sebum Control Serum balances the scalp’s sebum levels & microbiome, keeping it nourished and comfortable.
Exfoliate Weekly
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and unclogs follicles, promoting healthier hair growth. Using a gentle scalp scrub or massager can help stimulate the hair follicles & remove dead skin cells.
Refresh Between Washes with Dry Shampoo
Overwashing can strip natural oils, so using dry shampoo can help maintain freshness between washes. The Sebum Control Dry Shampoo absorbs excess oil, keeping your scalp feeling fresh & clean without water.
Protect Against Damage
Shield your scalp from UV rays with a hat or SPF hair products, and avoid harsh styling treatments that can irritate the scalp.
Common Scalp Concerns and How to Address Them
No matter your scalp type, these targeted solutions can help:
Greasy Roots and Oily Scalp
Excess oil is often caused by overactive sebaceous glands. Our Sebum Control Serum helps regulate scalp sebum production with clinically proven visible results in just 7 days.
Product Buildup
Styling products can leave residue that clogs hair follicles. Using a shampoo designed to deeply cleanse and unclog pores prevents buildup and keeps your scalp in optimal condition.
Seasonal Scalp Care Tips
Your scalp’s needs can change with the seasons, so adjusting your routine is essential:
- Summer: Focus on sun protection and lightweight products to manage sweat and oil.
- Winter: Hydrate more often to combat dryness from cold weather and indoor heating.
- Spring/Autumn: Use a deep cleansing shampoo like our Sebum Control Shampoo, to remove buildup caused by seasonal transitions.

I bought your product-sebum control serum, emailed you 2 days ago asking that after I apply to hair after shampoo my hair then when can I blow dry my hair but got no reply at all. Is that how you support your customers? Very disappointed.
