Amit Saha, Registered Pharmacist & Head of Technical & Innovation at Dermal Therapy provides an expert commentary on the differences between lip repair and lip moisturisation:

“‘Lip repair’ and ‘lip moisturisation’ refer to different aspects of maintaining the health and appearance of your lips. Let’s dig into what each term means.

Lip Repair

Lip repair refers to addressing existing issues or damage, such as chapped lips, cracks, flakiness, and irritation. Lip repair products are designed to provide intensive care to help heal and soothe damaged lips. These products often contain ingredients like emollients to soften and soothe, occlusives to create a protective barrier, ceramides to repair the barrier and healing agents like vitamins. It may also contain collagen or peptide for a fuller and softer appearance. These products are useful when lips are in a distressed state and need immediate attention.

Lip Moisturisation

Lip moisturisation focuses on maintaining hydration levels and preventing dryness. It involves using products that keep lips moisturised and nourished, even when they are not damaged. Lip moisturisers or balms are intended to keep lips soft, smooth, and comfortable by preventing moisture loss. They often contain ingredients like natural oils, butters and humectants that attract and retain moisture.”
